About Savannakhet Town:

Savannkhet town itself can be easily explored by foot and has a number of interesting temples, including Vietnamese temple and school and a large Catholic church. Much of the town's architecture is French Colonial. Major attractions include Sino-Vietnamese architecture, That Ing Hang Stupa and Wat Sayaphoum. It is also a good base to Ho Chi Minh Trail and trekkings to the jungle of the Phu Xang Hae NBCA.

Savannakhet, officially known as Muang Khanthabouli, has the reputation for one of the most attractive, relaxing local town. Located just across the Mekong river from Mukdahan, it is also a transport hub to different regions in Laos for whichever direction you head off.
