Savannakhet is easily reached from Thailand and Vietnam and has a number of spectacular Khmer ruins. The many fine examples of French architecture indicate the importance of the town during the colonial era. Must-visit sites include Wat Saya Phoum, That Inghang Stupa, Heuanehine (Stone House), the Dinosaur Exhibition Hall and Ho Chi Minh Trail. Lovely, quaint villages here are also a highlight for visitors. In the main town lies a small night market offering nicely made souvenirs.
