Lao
PDR (The Lao's People Democratic Republic.) lies nestled between
Thailand, China, Vietnam and Cambodia. About 70% of the country
is covered in mountains and high plateaus
For much of its history, the Land of a Million Elephants
has been under the influence of its neighbours until the communist
inspired Pathet Lao took over the country and created Lao PDR in
1975, establishing a national identity.
For many years, Laos was not on the tourist trail, but World Heritage
Sites like Luang Prabang, have helped to put the country
on the map. Lao still retains its old world charm, although tourism
is expanding with international hotels established in Luang Prabang
and Vientiane, the capital.
Why Visit?
A charming, old world kind of place, with amazing mountain scenery,
beautiful temples and calm, laid back ambiance. A complete contrast
to its more sophisticated neighbours like Thailand. A combination
of high mountains, difficult communications and government policy
have all prevented an influx of mass tourism retaining the feeling
of being in another world.
Where to Stay?
 Luang
Prabang A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most
inspiring places in Asia with a unique ambiance. Surrounded by mountains

 Vientiane

of Lao PDR, situated on the Mekong River, is the hub for travel
throughout the country. Major attractions are Buddhist monasteries
and monuments that dominate the streets of central Vientiane. Easy
to walk around. Stay downtown or near the riverside.

glimpse of endangered Irrawaddy Dolphins near Savannakhet.
